Since its inception in 1995, the Amorphous Band has included a virtual who’s who of NH talent. In addition to founder Chris O’Neill on lead guitar, full time members include Keith Foley on his 7-string fretless bass, drummer/vocalist George Laliotis and keyboardist Mike Effenberger. Musicians from all over the map have played gigs and made guest appearances with the band giving it a diverse pool of talent to grow with. From 2001 to 2004, the Amorphous Band held a residency at the Barley Pub in Dover NH – one of the premier rooms for touring bands in the northeast – by mixing originals with a blend of covers by artists such as Steely Dan, Bob Marley, Stevie Wonder, Eryka Badu and Brand New Heavies and displaying the group’s musical flexibility and ability to win over an audience and keep them up and dancing.
Over the years they’ve played over a thousand shows all over NE and the greater northeast, sharing the stage with artists such as Soulive, Robert Cray, John Hiatt, The Headhunters, The New Deal, Tim Reynolds, Johnny A., Percy Hill, the Bomb Squad, Benevento/Russo duo, Moon Boot Lover, Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey, Pat McGee Band, PBS, the Bad Plus and many more. Best Jazz act awards from the Portland Phoenix, Jam Magazine and the Portsmouth Herald each year from 2000-2008 and now a “Hall of Fame” status in 2009, have helped the band to gain the respect of a wide range of music fans.
Able to play concert venues, colleges, jazz clubs and private functions with style, the Amorphous Band continues to grow into the reputation of the Seacoast’s most versatile band.
